About Me

Looking for something meaningful.
This world’s full of holes
The myth of the happily ever after

/ Biffy Clyro – Witch’s Cup, 2021

As I write this, I’m sat at my desk in Ashland, Massachusetts. It’s almost 8pm and the murky January evening has turned into an equally murky night. It’s been a difficult day, with problems to be resolved, both people and technical, and an unexpectedly large bill for new tires on our creaky 2006 Mercedes.

If this is your first time to this page, you might be wondering what that paragraph has to do with the price of tea in India, or indeed what it has to do with an About Me page.

It’s 2023 and I’m revisiting the blog to make some tweaks to the design and layout before attempting to write another post. I realized that this page was probably very out of date, and could probably do with some sprucing. You can read the original below, and hopefully see what I was trying to achieve.

Anyway, I realized when reading the below paragraph, that it doesn’t actually tell you anything … about me. When I set this up, I was anticipating a website that friends and family would avidly follow, looking for the latest in a regular stream-of-consciousness reporting about life in New York City. It didn’t really turn out that way. You can go read the blog itself if you want some clues as to how it did turn out, but let us get, finally, to the point of this page.

My name is Ed. As of the day of this writing, I am 38 years old. I live in Ashland, Massachusetts with my fiancé and our 13 year old Border Collie, and work as the Director of IT for a software company in Boston. I enjoy technology, music, a good story (be it book, film, or television series), motorsport, and fine food and drink.

AboutMeBWI don’t take coffee, I take tea, my dear
I like my toast done on one side
And you can hear it in my accent when I talk
I’m an Englishman in New York

/ Sting – An Englishman in New York, 1987

As I write this, I’m actually sat at my kitchen table in South East London, but this is very much a website of intent. I’m relocating from London, England, to New York, United States of America later this year.

Ostensibly for work purposes (a new and interesting challenge which I’m very much looking forward to), this move also allows me to be much closer to the woman I love. Expect this site to chronicle my trials and tribulations as I prepare for the move, and visits in between, to the move itself and the journey to find an apartment and settle down so that I can go from being a Londoner to a New Yorker!

Once there, I’ll try to bring my wit to bear on new and exciting experiences that I hope to have, as I begin the next chapter of that crazy novel called Life.

I’ll try and post up the choicest photos of the whole thing as I go, but if you’d like to stay more in-tune then please follow me on Instagram, and Flickr for the more polished and edited photos. Those links are also at the bottom right of this site.
